When does concrete need to be cut?
Concrete is poured in one piece, but sooner or later a job needs it opened up or divided. Cutting is how that gets done on purpose instead of by accident. Control joints are cut into a slab so that if it cracks, the crack follows a planned line. An opening may be needed for a doorway, a drain or a pipe. A section that has failed can be cut out so the sound concrete around it stays and only the damaged part is repoured. Coring makes a round opening through a slab or wall.
Cutting is not always the answer. Sometimes the better route is a repair, or a new pour. If you are not sure which fits your concrete, describe what you are looking at and Big League will tell you plainly.

What is included
Cutting and coring for concrete work
The kinds of cutting Big League does for homeowners and property owners in and around Leesville.
Control joints
Cuts made in a slab so it can move, and so any cracking tends to follow a planned line instead of running across the surface.
Openings in concrete
Concrete opened up where something needs to pass through or be added, such as a doorway, a drain or a pipe.
Cutting out damaged sections
A failed section is taken out so the sound concrete around it can stay, ready for the formed and repoured section that replaces it.
Coring openings
Round openings made through a slab or wall, for the jobs where a full cut-out is more than you need.
Every job is different, so we look at the concrete and what you need before we say how we would approach it.
Cutting and coring questions
Short answers on what cutting is for and how to tell if your job fits.
When does concrete need to be cut?
Usually for one of a few reasons: to add control joints so a slab can move without random cracking, to make an opening, to remove a section that has failed, or to core a round hole. If your concrete falls into one of those groups, cutting may be the right step. If it does not, tell us what is going on and we will say so.
Can a damaged section be cut out instead of replacing the whole slab?
Often it can. When the damage is limited to one area and the concrete around it is sound, cutting out just that section lets the rest stay put, and the opening is formed and repoured. If the cause is the ground under it or the damage is widespread, a larger fix may make more sense. We look at the slab before recommending either.
What is coring?
Coring makes a round opening through concrete, such as a slab or a wall. It is a cleaner choice than cutting a large rectangle when all you need is a hole for something to pass through. The way to know whether coring or cutting fits your project is to describe where it is and what needs to go through it.
How do I know if my job fits?
Ask. Describe the concrete, where it is and what you need opened, divided or removed, and Big League will tell you whether it is work we do and what the right approach looks like. If something else, like a repair or a new pour, would serve you better, we will say that too, and you decide from there.
Not sure if your concrete needs cutting?
Tell us what you have and where. We will help you work out whether cutting, a repair or a new pour fits.
