Concrete and grading, Lexington County

Driveways & Slabs inWest Columbia, SC

Driveways, parking pads, patios and concrete repair, graded and poured by one family-owned crew. Step Into the Big Leagues.

Concrete on a West Columbia lot

West Columbia is a Lexington County city on the Congaree River, facing downtown Columbia from the west side of the water. It was incorporated in 1894 as Brookland, so many of its lots are well established, and older lots often mean repair or replacement rather than a first pour. Big League Concrete & Grading is a family-owned crew based in Leesville, SC, and West Columbia is part of our service area. We pour driveways, parking pads, patios and sidewalks, we repair cracked concrete, and we do the grading ourselves. That matters on a city lot. Before any concrete goes down, we check elevation, soil and dimensions, then grade the ground so rain runs away from your house and garage. A driveway that has to meet an old curb, a sidewalk or a neighbor's fence line needs its forms set with care and its base compacted so the slab stays flat. Trevor and the crew handle site prep and the pour under one roof.

Permits

Permits come before construction

The city says all permits must be obtained prior to starting any construction, and its Building Department takes applications, plan review, inspections and payments through an online portal. Its permit page does not mention driveways or slabs, so ask the city before you pour.

Floodplain

Flood elevation certification

The same city permit page notes that if a property is subject to flooding, a flood elevation certification is needed. On a lot near the river, check that with the city first, because the finished height of a slab and the grading around it both depend on the answer.

Stormwater

A countywide stormwater program

The city's stormwater page names the Lexington Countywide Stormwater Consortium and asks that leaves and other debris never be dumped into storm drain catch basins. Grading a lot so water leaves it cleanly, and cleaning the site afterward, are part of working responsibly in a city like this.

West Columbia questions

Before you pour

Do I need a permit for a driveway or slab in West Columbia?

The City of West Columbia says all permits must be obtained before any construction starts, and it handles permitting through an online Building Department portal. Its permit page lists building, electrical, plumbing and tree-removal permits but does not mention driveways or slabs. Ask the city's Building Department about your project before you schedule the pour.

Does being near the Congaree River change how a slab is built?

It can. The city's permit page says that if a property is subject to flooding, a flood elevation certification is needed. Whether that applies to your slab depends on the lot, so confirm it with the city. On our end, grading before the pour sets the finished height and slopes the ground so runoff drains away from the concrete.

Can one crew grade the lot and pour the concrete?

Yes. Big League handles land grading and concrete together, so no separate company has to prep your West Columbia lot. We evaluate elevation, soil and dimensions, clear and grade for runoff, form and pour over a compacted base, then finish, cure and clean up. One crew means one schedule and one person to talk to.

How long before I can drive on a new driveway?

Plan on light foot traffic after about 24 hours and keep vehicles off for at least 7 days. On a tight city lot, that usually means parking on the street or at a neighbor's with permission for that week. Check local parking rules first. We will tell you when your pour was finished so you know the date.

What affects the price of a driveway in West Columbia?

Size is the biggest factor, followed by how much grading the lot needs, whether old concrete has to come out, and how easy it is to get equipment to the site. We do not quote numbers without seeing the job. Use the quote button, tell us about the lot, and we will walk through pricing with no surprise charges.
